Namibia Diamond Trading Company (NDTC) is a 50/50 joint-venture between the Republic of Namibia and DTC (Diamond Trading Company), the mining and sorting arm of DeBeers; and I trust we all know by now (we should, at least) diamond mining is the most prominent industrial activity in Namibia.
I'm not sure about you, dear reader, but seeing Namibian diamonds in any setting makes my head spin and my pulse race. I LOVE diamonds! I don't just love them because they're 100% local and a premium product, but diamonds really 'pop' my particular skin tone, especially when they are in my ears, close to my eyes (take note). And I've come to this conclusion purely through trial and error; testing and fitting hundreds of ear adornments in the search for that special precious gem to compliment my skin tone.
In February of 2013, NDTC launched the 3rd annual Shining Light Awards Diamond Jewellery Collection, and the theme this year was 'Woman of Africa, Your Light Shines'. The CEO of NDTC, Mr. Shihaleni Ndjaba in his speech said: 'Our African women need to be celebrated. They endure the most difficult of conditions.' It was a spectacular event, and yes, each time I saw the diamonds, my beady eyes glittered.
Held at the Windhoek Country Club Resort & Casino, a red carpet showed us the way to the entrance of the main hall where we were welcomed with glasses of champagne. Definitely my kind of event - diamonds and champagne. The stage was well-lit, the audio was good, the music at just the right decibel-level, the speeches short and powerful, and everyone in attendance was dressed in formal evening wear! Security and personnel were naturally, very visible and prominent.
More than 103 Namibian-based jewelry designers entered for the awards and six finalists were selected. On the night of the awards, young and gifted Erkki Hifindwako (see below) was selected as the overall winner of the Shining Lights Awards 2013 - 2014. He designed an absolutely stunning ring using the ubiquitous African basket as departure point.
As a member of the media, I had the opportunity to see the winning piece up close and it is a masterpiece (see below). Herewith the proper description of the basket ring: 18ct white and yellow gold basket ring set with 575 round brilliant cut diamonds with a total weight of 13.57cts. The sponsor of the now-famous 'basket ring' is Julius Klein Diamonds Namibia (www.juliusklein.com).
I'll close this update with a message from the impeccably dressed Ms. Varda Shine, CEO of Diamond Trading Company (DTC) in South Africa, a lover and avid collector of diamonds, who was guest speaker at the NDTC Shining Lights Awards 2013:
'They say this is a man's world. But diamonds are a girl's best friend.'

Anthony Constantinou | Anthony Constantinou CEO CWM FX says Truly yellow diamond engagement rings are more preferred by individuals as compared to others, due to its lower price and attractive look. The most amazing aspect in appraising it is the richness and beauty of the color.
