STAR IN THE AFRICAN SKY: Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila (LIBRA)

Few women in Namibia are as feared, respected and admired as our Minister of Finance of Namibia, Honourable Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila.

Saara Kuugongelwa was born on the 12th of October 1967, under the sign of LIBRA, in the village of Okahao, Omusati Region, northern Namibia. A person of strong convictions from an early age, she went into exile in 1980, during the Namibian-Angolan Border War (1966 - 1989), at the tender age of 13. In 1982, aged 15, she left for West African country, Sierra Leone, and attended the famous Koidu Girls Secondary School (founded in 1952), 1982 to 1984, and Saint Joseph's Secondary High School thereafter from 1984 to 1987.

Saara Kuugongelwa obtained her Bachelors Degree in Economics from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, United States of America, in 1994, and returned to a democratic, peaceful and free Namibia, not long thereafter. Her first position was as desk officer in the Office of the President, during the term of First President of Namibia, Dr. Samuel Nujoma. Her work ethic, ambition and professionalism saw to her ascendancy into the position of Director-General of the National Planning Commission, at the tender age of 27...and her star continued to rise ever since, until her appointment as Minister of Finance in 2003.

STAR ANALYSIS:
Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila (16/10/1967)

She is persuaded and motivated by ideals, visions and dreams. She is a doer; others talk and wish, she takes action. Deeply artistic and creative, she also respects authority but only if it is meted out fairly. She is magnetic, very attractive, and others easily become romantically obsessed with her. She perceives cruelty in others and understands its source. Her aura emanates 'private', shy and 'hidden' lending to her an air of mystery, effectively hiding a steely determination and demanding nature.

She is honest and forthright in her dealings with others, trusts easily, and always optimistic. She is not motivated by success or failure but by action. Original and eccentric, she'll fight to overcome challenges and hurdles. She thoroughly enjoys participating in sports, physical activity, nature and outdoor life. She's naturally competitive. She is moved to anger easily, often impatient, and it disappears just as quickly. Injustice and dishonesty move her to anger fastest. Easy to approach, well-liked, falls in love easily, good-hearted, generous and good-natured.

The key to a successful relationship involves appreciating the 'small things' she does and giving her space to operate efficiently, because she tends to be very busy. Shy in social settings, she is not a fan of large crowds full of strangers but her sense of duty will prevail. She is always willing to discuss issues and shows a dedication to duty that's found far and few between.

She is a natural researcher due to a willingness to look beyond the superficial. She genuinely doesn't enjoy an ordinary, dreary existence and will seek new ways to do something, including the area of nutrition. A picky, particular eater, favouring healthy foods. She is a dreamer, seduced by words which are often insincere, is always self-conscious, despises a 'me first' attitude in others and takes pride in what she does.

Our Minister of Finance, Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila, always impeccably dressed, will be 46 years old this year. We hope her star continues to rise, wish her good health, energy and vitality, as her birthday month approaches, and wish a fabulous LIBRA year for 2014!

Tattoo: Ethiopian Coptic Cross (Meskel) Design

C hristianity arrived on the shores of southern Africa approximately 600 years ago, and unbeknownst to the bright-eyed European missionaries who disembarked from sodden ships at the Cape of Good Hope, it had been practiced on the African continent, and flourished as an independent religion for almost 1,000 years before, in Ethiopia. Today, the oldest Christian faith on the continent, rumoured to be closest in resembling early Christianity, is the Ethiopian Coptic Church (or the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church).      The cross is the popular universal symbol of Christianity and across the world, in every Christian community, it remains within the parameters of a simple design (+) , almost 2,000 years old. The Ethiopian Coptic Church is the only known Christian community that produces a remarkable version of the cross, called ''meskel''; even more remarkable, this development occurred independent of the influence of European Christianity. Meskel patterns and des

PRESS RELEASE: Insight Namibia Magazine Celebrates 100th Edition (September 2013)

In a magazine market known for its fly-by-nights and flash-in-the-pans, Insight Namibia cc marks its 100th monthly edition with the September 2013 issue . The first edition appeared in September 2004 and throughout the last nine years, Insight maintained its position as Namibia's premier current affairs magazine . Originally started and currently based in Windhoek, Namibia, the magazine's founders, Robin Sherbourne, David Lush and Tangeni Amupadhi,  journalists in their own right, at the time (2004) wrote that Insight was 'born out of a feeling that Namibians yearn for more than just hard news.' Readers were promised a publication that went beyond the daily headlines and covered 'the story behind the story' . The magazine was not started with a bank loan; the pioneers pooled their savings to get it off the ground and to this day, that same financial discipline, has ensured that Insight has never taken a loan to cover its operating, printing and overhead cos

DATING IN NAMIBIA: Rules to Remember (for Women)

Even though many Namibian women marry and have families while relatively young (between ages 21- 28), more and more Namibian women are single and dating, 'in the market', as they say in the West. Historically, in the not-too-distant past (23 years ago only), the movements and personal freedoms of many Namibians were severely restricted and controlled by the Apartheid Regime occupying Namibia until 1989, but fortunately, since Independence from South Africa in 1990 , the status of individuals (men and women), their rights and freedoms, are protected and enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia . For example, inter-cultural relationships and marriage was illegal 23 years ago, punishable with imprisonment. Despite these amazing new changes in the status of all Namibians, our society is still remarkably conservative (especially rural communities) with regards to the relationships and interaction between men and women. Our parents, extended family, siblings and f
