PERI PERI HOT: Michael Fassbender

The spicy flavours of Nando's chicken are good yardsticks to measure degrees of 'hotness', I think. It's relatively simple. All you have to do is choose for your order of chicken to be spiced 'mild', 'lemon & herb' or 'hot' and you'll always receive 2 - 3 little sachets of peri peri sauce with that, no matter the content of your order, the sachets of peri peri sauce are always there. You also have the option to purchase a bottle of peri peri sauce to enjoy the thrill of a fiery oesophagus and intense heartburn with every mouthful. The point being, you may choose the level of heat your intestinal tract is expected to manage.

'Hotness', in my opinion, is that special combination of natural good looks, great physique, 'presence', charm and sex appeal some fortunate individuals of both genders possess (in addition to being remarkably photogenic). These individuals are also very often successful with little effort, and wildly successful with focused effort. One such fortunate individual is without a doubt, enigmatic German-Irish actor, Michael Fassbender. And his particular Nando's flavour, in my opinion, is PERI PERI.

His star is rising in the world of entertainment and this one, I bet, has the makings of a mega star (like Depp and Pitt). I trawled a few blogs, checked out online posts, Facebook pages and communities inspired by Fassbender ('Fassy'), and not surprisingly, I found he has an obsessive following.

Michael Fassbender was born in Heidelberg, Germany, 36 years ago (1977) to an Irish mother and a German father, an odd combination by European standards. Not much is known about his childhood except that he was raised Roman Catholic, was an altar boy at some stage, and that he pursued a career in acting from an early age, having attended the Drama Centre in London. He currently lives in London, UK, and has a sister. He has a habit of dating his co-stars.

Fassbender is very good as an action star, and yet, he equally possesses the magnetism, looks and on screen presence of a romantic leading man. See his interpretation of Rochester in the film 'Jane Eyre' and as the protagonist, Brandon, in 'Shame'. He is incredibly versatile as an actor, and here I refer to his almost perfect and uber-convincing portrayal of the android 'David' in the science fiction movie 'Prometheus'.

He intrigues because he is low-key, physically attractive and not 'out there', involved in scandalous, typical attention-seeking, Hollywood behaviour. This is pure speculation, of course, but in all honesty, on the one hand, judging by the meagre bits of information available on the internet, Fassbender comes across as very private, rather reserved and conservative with subtle hints of old-fashioned values, encapsulated by a simple approach to life. On the other hand, judging by his choice of acting roles to date, he also appears restless, aimlessly enjoying the fruit of his star status, risky and adventurous to the point of recklessness.

In a nutshell, Michael Fassbender is the quintessential 'man's man' and at the same time, the man all women want. He makes for great photography, is extremely photogenic, and a sought-after model. Here's hoping his star continues to rise and that we'll see more of him as an action hero, a romantic lead, and who knows, maybe he'll walk off the stage soon with an Oscar in hand, or a BAFTA award for a critically-acclaimed performance. He was awarded the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival for his portrayal of Brandon in 'Shame'.

The magazine was not started with a bank loan; the pioneers pooled their savings to get it off the ground and to this day, that same financial discipline, has ensured that Insight has never taken a loan to cover its operating, printing and overhead cos

Tattoo: Ethiopian Coptic Cross (Meskel) Design

C hristianity arrived on the shores of southern Africa approximately 600 years ago, and unbeknownst to the bright-eyed European missionaries who disembarked from sodden ships at the Cape of Good Hope, it had been practiced on the African continent, and flourished as an independent religion for almost 1,000 years before, in Ethiopia. Today, the oldest Christian faith on the continent, rumoured to be closest in resembling early Christianity, is the Ethiopian Coptic Church (or the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church).      The cross is the popular universal symbol of Christianity and across the world, in every Christian community, it remains within the parameters of a simple design (+) , almost 2,000 years old. The Ethiopian Coptic Church is the only known Christian community that produces a remarkable version of the cross, called ''meskel''; even more remarkable, this development occurred independent of the influence of European Christianity.
